As a design principal, I have had the wonderful career of being able to create art and sculpture on a life-size scale. Interior spaces use a similar skillset - employing volume, color, and texture, and embedding meaning and metaphor, but with the added aspects of having to also address human behavior, constructability, sustainability, lighting, durability, and building codes!
My favorite surfaces are ceilings - they become sculptures in their own right. And of course light fixtures, because, they are art that glows.
Over my 40 years in the design field, I have been able to work in many different market sectors - workplace, hospitality, science, healthcare, education, and residential. Each is unique, but the design opportunities and solutions share many common threads.
